15. Select-O-Matic

In the 1950s, roadside diners and malt shops displayed the Crosley Select-O-Matic on their countertops. This chrome cabinet had lighted pages of song charts that turned like a carousel and could play a favorite tune when you inserted a nickel. In 1920, Powel Crosley Jr. started a company that developed broadcasting and inexpensive radio manufacturing. He also built a 500,000 watt radio tower that communicated President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Fireside Chats all the way to Australia.
