Category – History

The Eiffel tower is the tallest building in Paris and serves as the global symbol of France.  Constructed for the Paris Exposition of 1889, the tower is an engineering marvel, held together by two and a half million rivets. Many people once criticized its appearance as a monster, while others, like painter Marc Chagall, thought it was a thing of beauty. More than two hundred million people have visited this landmark. Fifty to sixty tons of paint must be applied to the tower every seven years to prevent rust.
