21. Châtelet-Les-Halles
Category – Science & Engineering
Châtelet-Les-Halles is the largest underground train station in Europe. Almost a million people a day visit this transport center, lying deep beneath Paris. Through the ages, the city has grown immensely. Paris began as a small trading post an island in the Seine River.
Today, Paris and its suburbs are the size of a small country. Urban planning was necessary to help people live in an affordable neighborhood yet commute to a job on the other side of the city. Urban planners designed a high speed railway so long travel times between distant parts of the city are cut to short train rides. The quick journeys allow Paris to grow. The Regional Express Network (RER) crisscrosses the city with more than 365 miles of track. But the RER alone doesn’t solve commute issues for Parisians.
Question –
- What are the other rail systems that Paris Regional Express links together?
