42. Scorpion, Cobra and Lizard in a Bottle

Category – Science & Nature

As Bleerio informs Trouble, scorpions are featured in a 1970s James Bond film, where a villain kills a man in the desert by dropping a scorpion down the victim’s shirt. This famous insect was re-cast in a more recent Bond movie. In Die Another Day, North Koreans use the neurotoxins in scorpion venom to torture James Bond.

Everyone knows scorpions thrive in hot, dry climates. That’s why there are more varieties of scorpions in the California and Arizona deserts than anywhere in the world. But you probably didn’t know they’ve been found alive and well in the Himalayas, the Andes and the Swiss Alps. Clearly, scorpions are very adaptable.

Questions

·         Scorpions cant chew. So how do they eat their prey?

·         What’s a really cool way to find scorpions at night?

·       Hadogenes troglodytes are the largest scorpions in the world. How big do they get and where do they live?

·         Scorpions have been around for a very long time. How old is the most ancient fossil record of these insects?
