46. Ultralight at Skyscraper

Category – Engineering & Invention

Ultralights aren't the only aircraft that can take off and land in confined spaces. There are actually two jet fighters capable of such feats. You can watch videos about them by clicking below.

Question

·         Besides those fighter jets (and helicopters), what airplane currently in service is designed for
Vertical Takeoff Or Landing (VTOL)?

Assignment – Find the answers and learn when you visit  a website devoted to U.S. Air Force Technology –

Click here to research the answer.

Ultralights are slow, flying at the speed of cars on a congested freeway. Jets fly much faster. Some fighter jets can exceed three times the speed of sound.

Question

·         What does it look like when a jet aircraft breaks the sound barrier? Sure, you hear a loud boom. But there is also a visual clue that the jet went faster than sound travels.

Assignment – Find why you see as well as hear the sound barrier shattered. Watch a video from the “Science is Fun” non-profit organization. Youll also learn about a device used in wild animal shows that breaks the sound barrier.
