52. Tarsier Monkey

Category – Nature & Geography

The smallest monkey in the world is the Tarsier. It resembles the alien E.T. in the Steven Spielberg movie, only smaller. A full grown Tarsier fits in the palm of a child’s hand. Click below to see a baby Tarsier in a 30 second home movie. The infant monkey in this zoomed-close video has a body about the size of a golf ball.

Questions

·         In Sign of the Rat, Dr. Cam and Socks rescue a baby Tarsier in the Philippines and bring him home for protection. On which island in the Philippines could they have found Zago?

·         That beautiful island has a very distinctive National Geological Monument resembling a popular candy. What is this candy’s trade name?

·         Tarsiers may be one of the oldest species in existence, but if so, they aren’t really monkeys. In that case, what should they be called instead?

Assignment – Discover the answers on a website dedicated to these species. Important disclaimer – Silicon Valley Novel hasn’t been able to independently validate that the foundation mentioned on this website furthers conservation of Tarsiers. As a result, we don’t endorse making donations to them. We only know that the information on the website is consistent with reference material from other sources and is educational.
